The Turkish bath is a long-revered custom, centuries-old; perfect for those looking for a truly physical and spiritual cleansing experience.
Historical Vezneciler Turkish Bath was awarded a certificate of excellence in 2018 by TripAdvisor. Ottoman Ruler Sultan Bayezid II had it built in the year 1481.
The classic hamam ritual usually takes about 60 minutes.
Prepare to leave the chaos and humdrum of life behind as soon as you enter the Turkish bath. Immerse yourself and embrace traditional custom by wearing the waistcloth and clogs provided.
Not quite for the faint hearted, inside the temperature can reach up to 50 degrees celsius under the central dome of the building.
The combined intense heat and humidity encourage the pores to open and impurities to be extracted from the body.
Following this, your skin will be gently exfoliated with a Turkish scrub and you will receive a soothing soap massage.

About Historical Vezneciler Hamami
Historical Vezneciler Turkish Bath is located in the district of Fatih, on Bozdogan Kemeri Road. Ottoman Ruler Sultan Beyazid II had it built in the year 1481. Being the first and only Bath built on the second floor, Vezneciler Turkish Bath is unique both in the world and in Turkiye. The curative water that heals the illness of jaundice is another feature of this bath.
This bath which hosted many important statesmen and pashas was renovated in 1950 by rebuilding the section of changing rooms out of reinforced concrete. Although Evliya Celebi mentioned Vezneciler Bath being a “double bath” (separate entrances for both sexes), this feature of the bath cannot be seen today. Vezneciler Turkish Bath is still in service today is private property.

Surprisingly, even for us, fans of Finnish saunas with temperatures of 80-90°C, it wasn't cold in their sauna. Then, 20 minutes on a marble lounger – your heart speeds up, it's like fire. We visited on a weekday at 4 pm, there weren't many people. We took the Relaxing program for 75€ per person and were very pleased (my husband was especially lucky with the massage therapist). The man who greeted guests was the epitome of courtesy, very pleasant (they didn't have information about the reservation we made through trip.com that morning, but the issue was resolved without any hassle, and they apologized for the 15-minute wait). The woman who did my whole treatment was incredible, and the owner even through in coffee scrub for me. I did have my Turkish friend book it for me, but it truly was a one of a kind experience. Tourists can obviously go to other hamam’s that are more “luxurious” but I would choose this one for its authenticity, every day. It took a bit of searching, as you could easily walk right past the building if you aren't paying close attention. You have to go up some stairs and through a door somewhere before you see anyone. Once inside, the reception was good; the package was discussed with you beforehand so you knew what to expect based on the package you had chosen. The two ladies who performed the scrubbing, foam massage, coffee wrap, and body massage were amazing. They don't speak English very well, but with them and some gestures, you manage just fine. This is precisely what makes the experience so enjoyable. We deliberately chose this hammam, not one in the busy city center where perhaps every tourist goes and things might get rushed because it’s all about the money. They are genuinely very friendly and highly skilled. You undress in a changing cubicle, which you then lock; you carry the key with you on your wrist at all times. So your belongings are safe. You don't need to bring a bikini or anything similar. Completely naked, you are given only a towel to wrap around yourself—which, of course, was off for most of the time because they were busy with you. It was pure enjoyment from start to finish. We stepped out of the hammam feeling reborn after 2.5 hours. It could have lasted another hour for us!

We made a same-day reservation on a wet and snowy February day and this was the perfect place to warm up. We opted for the Relax Bath option for €75 per person and it was great value. We didn’t feel rushed, the experience was relaxing and the service was solid. This place can look slightly sketchy from the exterior but inside is just what you would expect. Comfortable and certainly not sketchy! The bath itself is just what you would expect from a Turkish bath. We were both really well looked after. I booked via WhatsApp which was super easy and would recommend the same. If you are looking for a “Spa” experience in the western sense, you may want to look at slightly more upmarket options (which will cost you). Although we're used to hammams and saunas, we decided to try this Turkish bath experience. The neighborhood where this Turkish bath is located is a bit out of the way, so it's less touristy. The place seems to date back to 1490; while it's quite beautiful, it's certainly not the most beautiful Turkish bath in Istanbul. However, it feels authentic given the almost exclusively local clientele. It's also one of the most affordable: €50 per person for the classic one-hour bath, whereas many others charge €100 and more. This seems like a price geared towards tourists. The website describes the treatments and the experience well: 10 minutes in the hammam on white marble slabs, 10 minutes in the sauna, then the masseur takes over for a scrub and foam massage. Quite surprising and very pleasant, it ends with tea before getting dressed; a few sweets or small cakes would have been a welcome addition to the tea.

In the end the route lasted 120 minutes. The place itself is not beautiful, the interior design could be revised by taking better care of the furnishings. The service was excellent, we were led to the changing rooms equipped with a key that remains on your wrist for the entire duration of the service. In the changing rooms you can change and wear only the cotton towel provided by them (it is not recommended to wear any other clothing) and the slippers provided, you go to the Turkish bath, then to the sauna, you are given a bottle of water each. At that point each of us had our own personal masseur/therapist who provided the scrub with the sponge glove done in an energetic and precise way, we moved on to the massage with scented oil on the whole body which lasted almost 40 minutes and was done in an energetic and effective way followed by the bubble massage performed lying on a marble slab which was a truly beautiful and unique experience.
