Fethiye’s Old Turkish Bath Hamam ( Tarihi Fethiye Hamami ) is located in the Old Town (Paspatur). It was built, together with the Old Mosque nearby, in the 16th century by Yavuz Sultan Selim.
This is a beautiful mixed hammam – a fantastic place to be steamed, scrubbed and massaged. With most hammams now based in hotels this is an original alternative with its traditional Moorish design and architecture (check out the brass fittings). It is professional and welcoming, swimwear is worn, and girls can request a female masseuse.
The 16th-century hammam is still in use and though it’s a bit touristy, it is full of atmosphere, with 14 domes and six arches taking you back to the days of the old-fashioned Turkish bath. It can be a fine way to scrub off the barnacles after a long voyage. They also offer facial, mani-pedis, and a popular rose oil massage. Feel free to wear your bathing suit, or use the peştemal (traditional hammam towel) they provide.
There are separate sections for men and women (and a mixed section for couples).

A hamam, almost 400 years old. An ancient Turkish public bathhouse. You can feel the spirit of the times. Up to 15 people can visit at a time, and no more than four can comfortably lie down on the marble floor at any one time; the rest sit on narrow stone benches. It's very noisy and uncomfortable for many. The owner, who is also the administrator and bath attendant, apparently offers exfoliation and a soap massage with her husband. It's not bad, but it's short and public. I recommend it as an experience in an ancient Turkish bath, but once was enough for me; I definitely won't go there again.

I came out feeling so fresh and clean, and with the knots in my shoulders all massaged out. Don’t expect fancy spa conditions - it is a traditional hamam and fairly rough and ready but it does what it says on the tin. Apparently a drink was included, but they didn't offer me anything while people with fewer treatments and massages did. I was so thursty. They also got a pin with the evil eye, which I also didn't get.During the massage the masseur made some remarks in Turkish (he didn't speak English), when I asked the lady in charge she wasn't interested in finding out what he said. We rung ahead of our visit and confirmed that we were coming. We drove from Oludeniz. When we arrived, the man changed the price and then said speak to my manager over the phone. The lady was extremely rude, changed the price once more and then after five minutes of talking, then said the place was shut and not open at all and then went on to talk about how she had not had a day off in three years. Relaxing steam bath, exfoliating scrub and wash down - all very pleasant in fabulous ancient surroundings…..but the post bath back and neck massage proved far too strong and my neck has been painful for 3 days now….. the first night I woke up every time I moved all through the night… uncomfortable flight home and still feeling it now on the third day. kc W1 October 2023Old world charm and a super hammam and massage experience Today was our first ever visit to the Old Turkish Bath, but it won't be our last. We have been to hotel and other spa centres in Çalış and Ölü Deniz, but decided to try something different. We were not disappointed. There's no fuss or frills, but the hammam and massage for both myself and my husband were excellent. Muzaffer (lady) and Uhr (man) scrubbed with a firm hand and pressed firmly during the massages. We had the rooms to ourselves. The marble was comfortably warm to enable the pores to open before being washed. The environment was clean and relaxing. Nothing was rushed. There is a complimentary tea after the hammam with a small charge for any extra. There is a male and a female changing area with lockers and footwear to use. You can keep your bikini / swim trunks on. We felt calm and relaxed after the treatments and enjoyed having a chat with Muzaffer. It is always nice to engage with the people you meet on your travels. We will definitely book again and definitely recommend trying something that might normally be a little out of your comfort zone. There is nothing to worry about. I saw the good reviews of The Old Turkish Bath in Fethiye, but both the Anglicised naming and some of the publicity material as well as Fethiye's overly English tourist centre had made me reluctant of it being anything close to authentic. However, any negative thoughts soon dissipated. The three of us, myself, my 14 year old son and partner, had a fantastic experience all together. The staff were incredibly pleasant, friendly and obviously proud to be keeping the long tradition of this Hammam working. I would fully recommend the he Old Turkish Bath. Love Travel26 June 2022In all my years of having massage this was my closest one I had high expectations for this Traditional Bath house. After selecting my services my first thoughts were of the slight damp smell. Whilst sitting in the hamam I thought it would be nice to have essential oils to cover the smell!The ritual itself was pleasant enough, though I paid extra for heard skin removal and they only did my heels, not my toes...The extra bit I did not pay for, nor require, was the close massage by the male masseuse. They reached the very top of my leg several times, which did not make me feel comfortable. Also, as they reached over the table to massage my other arm there were repeated accidental placement of their groin in my hand. Occupational hazard? Perhaps, but it seemed a bit too accidental for that. Even after I moved my hand, as much as one can in a confined space, it also happened. I felt as though they could have been more discreet when covering my chest for the front massage. Also, I selected the aromatherapy massage, but didn't smell anything until they massaged my face, and at that point I'm sure they used a different oil. My body did not smell of any aromatherapy oil after. Notwithstanding, it was a very deep, firm and releasing massage and they know their stuff. Oleg C22 September 2021How to spend 2 hours in a Russian steam room I have been to Fethiye several times and have long wanted to get into this Hamam and finally did it. The building itself was built in the 16th century, inside of course the decoration is more modern, although the feeling of antiquity and time is felt in everything: the old ceiling vaults, the echo effect in the steam room, vintage furniture in the dressing room. The cost of a standard hourly session is 160 lira. What immediately catches the eye from the standard understanding of the Hamam (I speak for myself because I most often sat in such, both in public / private baths, and in water parks, fitness centers, etc.) is the amount of steam and temperature. Usually in "Russian" Hamams there is so much steam that you can't see an outstretched arm, and the temperature is 60-70 degrees or more. In this hamam it felt like there was no steam at all and the temperature was 35-40 degrees maximum, at first we even thought that this was a tourist attraction and we were cheated out of money. But after 20 minutes allotted for "soaking" it became clear that we were all already covered in sweat, the humidity was quite high, although the steam was not visible, and in general we warmed up quite well. Apparently the effect in a hot hamam is 5-10 minutes = 20-30 minutes in a less hot one in terms of effect. Then the procedures began. We were alone with a friend, respectively, a male steamer / soaper took care of me, a woman on my friend. In general, the bathhouse is a family one, so the staff is limited to 2-3 for 2 sections - women's and men's. In the center of the rather cool soap room there was a large marble table. Again, there were fears that we would freeze, but the table turned out to be heated and quite hot. Then came the soap procedures, I will not spoil and write in detail. During the procedures it was not only not cold, but also quite hot. Later I found out how this effect is achieved in hamams. Whipped foam, and in the hamam it was also aromatic, because on olive soap, due to the large amount of air in the structure is a strong heat insulator, i.e. in fact, you are warmed by the warm water that is poured on and the hot table, and the foam does not allow the body to remove heat and you get the effect of a thermos. In general, in an hour we left not only washed, but also sat in a towel in the dressing room sweating terribly for 10-15 minutes, and after leaving there was a pleasant fatigue like after a classic bath with steam bathers for 2 hours. Such an unexpected effect, I recommend!!!

More basic than the brilliant spa we visited next door last year but myself and hubby had a great steam bath salt and bubbles (plus foot bath) for 155 lira each. Lovely friendly staff 😊 Only downside... We visited on a stormy Saturday morning and they were too busy to do the massage we had planned, we will have time to fit in another visit before we leave fethiye....

My boyfriend and I left Dalyan after doing our research and deciding that this bath was worth including on our day trip to Fethiye. I chose a face mask first and after my boyfriend saw my reactions, I didn't want to miss out either and instead of looking like a swamp monster, I felt like a queen. While we waited we had complimentary drinks and admired the beautiful old building. The incredibly sweet lady was very welcoming and helped wash our faces. We then both had a delightful full body massage, so much so that we stayed for half an hour after we finished to nap. As we left we were gifted with lovely little handmade brooches and given an incredible aromatic liquid to splash on our faces. The next day we returned for a traditional Turkish bath which I can only describe as sensational. Be careful not to be too British and don't be embarrassed about being carried away and thoroughly cleaned. Leave all that caution at home and don't be embarrassed when you catch a glimpse of a place where the sun doesn't shine. All that aside, I left feeling reborn. The EXTRAORDINARY lavender soap you bathe in is like heavenly silky clouds enveloping your body. When you put it on, you expect it to flow down your skin like water, but oh no, it is held in a beautiful bubble of bliss. Happened to go to the real and slightly advertised 'must go' hamam with my twelve year old son, full steam, sweat, scrub, soap, more scrub, rinse, scrub and massage. Between us we had aromatherapy, sports and full body massages and although we were all a bit worried about the 'you don't have to be naked' thing. It took over 2 hours with only one masseur on duty that morning and he took drinks and a couple of towels and a tip of 600 lira. The place was built around 400 years ago and they have retained many of the feel and appearance of an old Turkish bath, which makes the experience really special and gives the feeling of being in 'proper' Turkey. I would wholeheartedly recommend these guys and will be back at least once I am in Turkey. There are newer and more comfortable baths in Fethiye and other places but this is not the place

We thought if it was a scam but it looked OK so we would give it a try. It looked a bit grubby inside but we carried on. There was a soak and a scrub - both from men who were very... efficient... but both were very professional and as a woman I felt no anxiety at all. We both left feeling very refreshed. Louise C20 September 2017Very relaxing... a must do when in Turkey We arrived here around 1030 - 1100 and we were the only people there which was nice (after a slightly embarrassing moment when we walked in to the men's section... ooops!)We were directed to the changing rooms and lockers and given a robe and told to strip (you can go fully naked or in swim wear depending on what your comfortable with). Footwear is provided.We were directed to the toilet and then the steam room, which wasn't steamy but you get very sweaty very quickly.After about 15 mins the therapist came in to start the treatment which was lovely. If your naked under your robe (which we were) you are stripped to your waist and your lower half is covered. Throughout they were very professional I felt completely comfortable. This experience was totally different, For a start, the steam room did not have the intense heat that other places have. It was a really comfortable heat, and it was in a small marble room. I wondered if it was hot enough to get up a sweat - I needn't have worried, within minutes it was pouring off me. The exfoliation/scrub was harder (and better) than in other hamams. We both had mini massages with the bubbles, and although there was a language barrier, the masseur noticed that my partner had a problem with his neck. nasusus2 September 2015Lovely time We visited the hamam as a family of four. Our children are 7 &12. The staff were helpful and accommodating. They only charged half price for the children. We made sure before going in that we could all go together and we stayed together the whole time. Firstly you are led to the changing room where we changed into our bikinis and a towel that they provided us with. There were lockers to secure our belongings. We were then led into the hamam where we were left to relax and acclimatise for about 15 mins. Two men masseurs came in wearing towels and they started with our children. They made them feel so comfortable and were very kind. The children were scrubbed then given a bubble massage. There was lots of laughing and getting the children involved. Next was the turn of the adults. The experience of being in the ancient, traditional building added to the authenticity and enjoyment. The warm marble slab was fabulous! The room didn't get really steamy as we had expected so it was far more comfortable and less claustrophobic than we thought it might be, but it did it's job. The rub down with the rough mitt was, well, firm but refreshing and exhilarating. The foam experience was truely amazing - it felt like being cocooned in velvet. I had the rough heels treatment for an extra £2.50 - well worth it! Far better than any UK pedicure! Then we were rinsed down and had the 20 min rose oil massage. Perfect! On this visit( we have been before) we brought our family of son, daughter in law and daughter. For 50 lira we sweat for 30 minutes, were rinsed, exfoliated, rinsed, soap bubble washed and massaged, rinsed, shampooed, rinsed, wrapped in snuggly towels, given tea and then for another 50 lira we had a 30-minute rose oil massage, which was pretty darned good. Some people have posted that this hamam is expensive but as i live in Ireland I think it's a great bargain holiday treat at 90Tl /€30 for hamam, full body massage, face mask and foot treatment.. ( the massage alone would have set me back €70 at home) all this took an hour and a half, the staff were very friendly and my partner was there the whole time, so whilst the big hairy guy scrubbed the living daylights out of me I didn't feel for one second that anything dodgy was going on.My massage was then given by a woman so again happy days. So sorry that some reviewers didn't have a good experience here, hopefully the disgusting sounding staff are no longer there, we certainly didn't come across them.One tip for ladies like me with long hair, it's great letting them wash your hair for the head rub but it does end up haystack style! maccadingdong17 September 2014Fabulous After a nervous look around (having never done this kind of thing before), my boyfriend and I decided to give a Turkish Bath a whirl.We went in, not really knowing what to expect and were greeted by friendly staff who took the time to explain the procedure to us.We opted for the Turkish Bath and a 20 minute massage afterwards.We both changed and stowed our valuables in the locker provided, which was free and then we were ushered through in to the steam room.I don't usually like steam rooms as I find it difficult to breathe in them, however this is different and you sit next to a marble sink, for want of a better word, and you can keep topping up with cool water and rinsing yourself.After 20 minutes, one of the staff comes in an you lie on the marble slab in the centre of the room and he rubs you down with a mitt to cleanse the dead skin from your body. I didn't think I would have any as I scrub regularly - I was wrong! He does front and back and then takes you back to your seat and rinses you off with warm water.Then, another staff member has you lie in a different spot on the marble slab and covers you in bubbles. He lightly massages you, front and back and it's worth to note that it is slippy so be careful turning over! Then you are rinsed off again and your hair is washed. You are given a big fluffy towel and taken out to the waiting area to cool off and given a drink of Turkish Tea, which is about 3TL. It was not hard to find ( near to the Telemosses Gold Centre, close to the harbour.) I had been to a haman before and knew what to expect. The building is compact but well preserved with a small antechamber which doubles as the reception and rest area after the event. I liked the antiquity of the building and the lack of upmarket mod cons.There are separate changing areas for males and females but the haman itself was mixed on the day I went. There were two male attendants providing the Turkish bath scrub and soap which was done on a marble slab in the centre of the communal haman. You may wish to wear a swimming costume as others have also suggested but if not, the attendants were professional and discreet. It would be fair to say it can be a little difficult to be discreet when you are covered in foaming soap and sliding around on the top of a marble slab (some dignity may be lost, albeit inadvertently ! )I also opted for a further rose oil massage, which was conducted behind a modesty screen in the communal rest/ reception area. By then all dignity had failed, so I just enjoyed the massage! The staff were lovely and the whole visit was very memorable. Don't be put off trying the experience, as you may discover it is something you will want to try again. As for the cost, the whole visit cost me 85tl ( which is the equivalent £23.80 in August 2014.) This was half the price quoted by other more modern humans in the resorts, it also covered use of towels, robe, slippers, locker, bottle of water and après Turkish tea. My husband and I took to running along the corniche between Fethiye and Calis in the morning and rather than return to our villa to shower and change, took all our kit with us and headed to the Hamam. It was great to get out of running gear and into the sauna, coming out scrubbed and clean!For the ladies, there is either a hair dryer in the changing area (one of those hot tubes) and a proper one in the main area. madpad31 March 2014Interesting experience My Turkish bath experience was interesting. I changed into my bathing suit and was lead into the hamam. The architectural details were beautiful and I was the only one in the bath which made it very peaceful and relaxing. However there were no instructions provided so it felt like I was in the sauna area for a very long time, not knowing what to do, before the masseur came in. The masseur was large hairy man who spoke no English. He immediately covered me in suds and started scrubbing, flipping me every which way and pouring water over my head. It was surreal...I was half drowning, totally confused, and loving it! This was not a 'spa' experience in any sense of the word, rather this was an adventure - and a fun one at that. I recommend trying it just to say you did a Turkish bath in Turkey. But keep an open mind, lower your expectations, and treat it like a once in a lifetime event.Posted on Tripadvisor

Do note that the place has one female one and another for male. Do ensure u go to the correct one. Once inside, you will be asked which package u prefer. I opted the normal one which was just essentially the scrub. The price was 35 lira. I was then given a towel and told to change out. Being my first time there, I left my boxers on. It was a bad decision as my boxers ended up wet n I did not bring an additional one. This place tt I was at was pretty small and there wasn't anyone else there while I was in the facility. I was given time to wash up and sit in the sauna area. I think the masseur forgotten to come in, so I had to get out to call him in. The massage was an experience. Firstly, the masseur will use a hand scrub that had a rough surface to scrub ur entire body. Of course, he will get u to lie down and then after a few minutes of scrubbing, he will then wash u with water. Following which, he will have make this soap water and using some cloth, he will start to foam your entire body. Then he will rinse u once more and that's basically the end of the entire massage. You can then wash again or just sit around for as long as u like before going out to the changing room and make payment.I've read on many sites to tip the masseur as this was probably their only source of income. But in this instance, I didn't tip him. Mainly it was because it was pretty unprofessional, whereby he made me wait for 2 hours in the suana room before commencing his scrub and the process only took less than 10 minutes. It felt like he was in a hurry and throughout, I didn't feel comfortable at all. Overall, I would recommend trying a Turkish bath if you're in the country, but I think it's something that u do once and will not hurry to do again.Posted on Tripadvisor

Moo18922 September 2013Totally relaxing and wonderfully cleansing. Well having lived in Fethiye I walked passed the Old Hamam in the Paspatur many a time but never took advantage of the baths. I have used another hamam so I knew what to expect but what I didn't expect was the simply but beautifully decorated dome in the changing area. Yes, the staff have a very limited grasp but hey guess what......you are in Turkey. We still managed to understand that we were to change in the space indicated and ready we were directed to the bath. Here we sat in the smaller chamber and relaxed whilst our pores opened. Then it was time for the exfoliation followed by the washing down with the pillow case filled with the bubbles of olive oil soap - be prepared for cold water used to wash the bubbles away.We were then wrapped in towels and given a drink back in the first chamber of the baths. My friend and I also had the fabulous oil massage which really did take away all the tensions and knotty stress away from your body. small_sweets31 July 2013Turkish bath with attendants My husband and I went there together at 9 pm. They gave us sheets and slippers and invited us inside. It was warm, humid, everything was marble. We were there alone for about 10 minutes, then the first attendant came in. He started rubbing us with a rough glove (scrub), it was very nice! Then the second attendant appeared! He threw soap into a bag, which created an unimaginable amount of foam! And he lathered this whole bag of foam on us! While he was lathering us, it was very ticklish. During the washing process, he slapped our stomachs and backs a couple of times, it was very strong and unexpected, even painful, I was left with bruises. That's the only downside, everything else was great! Then they washed our hair, rinsed us with cool water and wrapped us in new sheets. The third attendant dried us on the way out, wrapped us in another batch of sheets and gave us tea! None of the staff speaks English or Russian, only Turkish. This visit cost us 35 lira per person. I was in a swimsuit. I recommend this service! Very interesting and pleasant!

ELD2229 July 2013A Genuine Slice of Turkish Tradition! If you are seeking a real Turkish bath experience without all the frills then look no further. Yes, this Hamam is small and very old but they do their job extremely well. It is certainly not like the more modern Hamams which can be like a factory process. Here they take really good care of you and you get the full works. The pillow case full of soap bubbles is great fun and as long as you can cope with having a large Turkish man scrubbing and massaging you then you'll have a great time. It is a really fun experience and one not to be missed. It is recommended to have a Hamam at the beginning of your holiday to rid you of your dead skin in order to make your tan last longer. After your treatments you are carefully wrapped up in head and body towels and given a refreshing cup of Turkish mint tea. Having tried this Hamam twice I really would recommend it. We had been to a turkish bath in calis beach and it was over very quickly and was just tickled the massage was that non existent. We hopped on a water taxi over to fethiye on recommendation from another hotel guest. We were greeted politely and asked if we could have a hard massage and then booked a turkish bath and a local massage. It is a traditional bath and the service was excellent. We received the hard massage that we asked for, left thoroughly relaxed, thoroughly clean and all knots in the body were gone. This place is definitely worth a visit. No where scrubs up to this place. Each time we have had the bathing experience and massage. One time we took my parents too!You start by being steamed. You then get scrubbed and washed. When you're done, its through to the ante room for a drink (tea is free) and a massage, which is extra and clearly marked as so.Wear a bathing costume; one piece or bikini. They work around it! Although I've typically had a male 'washer' and masseuse, this has never been an issue. They are highly professional and very respectful of women.The massage is with rose oil and can be 20 minutes through to 50 mins.This is an old hamam and you can imagine the sights that it has seen over its lifetime. Yellowvw21 October 2012Great way to start your holiday Neither my husband or I had experienced a Turkish bath before but some people in our hotel had one and recommended it. They had theirs in a modern hotel but we found this one not far from our hotel in the local shopping area, in an old 16th century building which we felt added to the whole experience. Outside they run a video so you can see what to expect. Entrances are 'men only' and 'mixed', I persuaded my husband to come into the mixed one with me. Some people strip off completely using the overly large tea towel/wrap for modesty. It had been suggested we wear swim wear, a bikini is ideal. I only had a one piece costume so wore a bra and pants which was very comfortable. I was surprised that I was washed and massaged by a man and my husband was looked after by a woman. We were nervous at first but relaxed and went with the flow and really enjoyed it. You have to pay extra for a massage, we opted for a 20 minute relaxing massage which was wonderful. Unprompted, my masseur identified an area in my right shoulder that is tight and had been causing me some aching. He was very gentle and when he had finished it felt wonderful. We both felt squeaky clean and lovely to the touch! We will both definitely have one when we come back to Fethiye next year and would happily recommend it to others. The walls above are flaking, there are cracks here and there but if you want something with history look no further.
